     PMBL SEASON REVIEW 2020
In what was a year of uncertainty, the PMBL had a great year in many regards as it continued to represent Basketball WA as Perth’s premier social basketball competition.
The PMBL was able to bounce back strongly following a two-month layoff in the middle of 2020 due to the COVID shutdown. The 2020 Winter season following the COVID shutdown saw a reasonable 179 team nominations, which was down on previous seasons. Teams may have been reluctant to join the competition immediately following the COVID break which might explain the drop in numbers.
There was a tremendous turnaround in the following 2020 Spring Season as nominations increased by a massive 21% up to 217, reaching capacity for the competition. Over 2020 the PMBL had a team retention rate of 78%, however 39 new teams joined the competition in the Spring Season, which was positive. The competitions department will continue to review team nominations
to find the reasons for teams leaving the league in an attempt to improve team retention rate.
