OFFICIALS EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENTS

Australian Junior Championship
Off the back of a restricted 2021, 2022 was a bumper year for Basketball WA in terms of the number of officials courses provided throughout the whole state. 82 Officials Courses were run in 2022 with 39 of them been ran in regional towns. The 39 Courses in the regional towns is a 200% increase on 2021.
Basketball WA continued its traditional structure and framework to allow associations in metropolitan and regional areas to conduct referee courses. Delivery of two Wheelchair Referee Courses, one in Perth and one in the Southwest. Two Level 1 Referee Coach Courses, several Association Beginner Courses in towns where courses haven’t been run in several years or ever in town like Jerramungup (Great Southern), Roebourne (Pilbara), Newman (Pilbara), Turquoise Coast (Jurien Bay, Midwest)
Basketball WA was able to deliver the annual scoretable courses prior to junior and senior elite competition along with a statistician course in preparation for the senior elite competition.
APPOINTMENTS
Southern Cross Challenge
With the Annual SCC been cancelled, BWA ran its own Southern Cross Challenge for WA Teams and BWA was able to support that by inviting the WABL and Emerging WABL Referee Development Program kids to come down and learn in a friendly environment with support from its Mentor’s and NBL1 West Referee Coaches.
Basketball WA sent several referees to National championships throughout 2022.

International
With the Women’s World Cup in Sydney, the following Scoretable and Statisticians were selected to represent WA at the tournament.
Scoretable – Nathan Robertson, Natalie Moiler & Natalie Mippy
Statisticians – Tammy Ong & Lenora Sundstrom.
Brad Carle & Ethan Lloyd were both selected to participate as Wheelchair Referees for an International Wheelchair Series in Canberra in July.

Referee Development Programs
Basketball Australia reignited its National Referee Development Program selecting the best upcoming officials from throughout the nation as the Development Program built for the WNBL. 3 Officials from WA were selected into this program Scott Campbell, Daniel Coffey & Morgan Hughes.
