22 TEAMS STATE CHAMPS
GREAT SOUTHERN IN STATE TITLES AND COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Competition has been the key deliverable for all of our associations. Coaching courses, workshops, and updates have assisted the region in committing to sending teams to state-wide competitions. The State Championships saw 22 teams traveling from our region, including 4 Great Southern representative teams in the Division 1 weekend. The Junior Country Championships had 33 team entries representing one of the Great Southern associations.
NBL1 GAMES IN ESPERENCE
Over the July school holidays, our region hosted the NBL1 regional round games between South West Slammers and Goldfields Giants. The event was held in the brand new four-court stadium in Esperance with support from the Shire of Esperance, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and Esperance Basketball Association. Over the three days, courts were filled with community clinics delivered by South West Slammers, Aussie Hoops sessions, High-Performance Clinics, Coaching and Referee courses, as well as the actual games themselves.
3X3 COMMUNITY EVENTS
In partnership with the Local Governments, the Great Southern region saw 3x3 participation clinics and competitions across multiple remote areas. These sessions included skills and drills to improve abilities, teamwork sessions to increase the confidence of young people, as well as Western Australian Police attendance, where Police officers took the court alongside the kids. Multiple 3x3 events delivered assisted with the community activation for the local government events such as Community Fun Day in Katanning or Rio Tinto 3x3 Streetball in Albany.

SCHOOL PARTICIPATION
The annual Great Southern High School Basketball Carnival gained continued engagement from most Great Southern Basketball Catchment areas. While the overall champion of the event was Denmark Senior High School, this event saw participation from Mount Barker schools as well as schools from Albany and surrounds.
Partnering with Hockey WA, WAFL, and Football WA Development officers, Albany Primary Schools took part in the "Come and Try" multi-sport event. Young people from these schools took the challenge to try a sport which would not usually be their first choice.
SCHOOL PARTICIPATION
For the first time, two of the Great Southern Associations deepened community involvement by incorporating specialty rounds within their season. The Pink Round supported Breast Cancer Network Australia, Mental Health Round, Aboriginal Round, and Belt Up round partnering with Insurance Commission of Western Australia.
AUSSIE HOOPS
The youngest of the ballers took part in Aussie Hoops programs in Albany, Esperance, Denmark, and Katanning. With the increase in basketball exposure, participation in the Aussie Hoops sessions increased rapidly. The growth of interest in the program supports the development of local players as well as coaches in the region.
