INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN BASKETBALL
  Basketball continues to ride a wave of popularity, driven by continued interest in the game across Australia and overseas.
The basketball community in Western Australia has grown to over 50,000 members for the first time in our history. Meaning that our game has expanded by almost 40% in the past 5 years.
Overall participation rates are even higher than this, with growing interest in our introductory basketball programs, such as Aussie Hoops and the School Slam Series.
3x3 is also starting to emerge as an exciting new format of the game, with an enthusiastic and passionate fan base.
Factoring in engagement across all these grassroots participation programs, our estimated reach is 70,000 participants in WA.

         Smarter than Smoking School Slam Series
2019
The Smarter Than Smoking School Slam Series is a primary school basketball tournament played throughout WA. School teams compete in a local carnival against other schools from within their catchment area. In many cases this is the child’s first taste of basketball, hence there is a strong emphasis on participation over competition.
The aim of the series is to:
• promote basketball in a fun and safe
environment;
• promote our local Associations and
their facilities; and
• provide an entry point for children
who are new to basketball.
The Smarter Than Smoking School Slam Series has been a key area of focus for Basketball WA over the past couple of years and has enjoyed a sustained period of growth over this period.
The series has a very high rate of female representation, with almost half of all participants being young girls.
