Pre-program all participants answered survey ques- tions to measure their current LifeSkills knowledge. The Survey was then repeated post-program to determine if participants LifeSkills Knowledge had increased. Some amazing results were achieved with huge increases of knowledge in Halls Creek and the Looma program re- cording a perfect score (100% of participants answered 100% of the questions correctly post program).
Coaches at all sites advised that school attendance on 3x3 Streetball days (no school- no Streetball) was strong. They also were excited about the skill development of the kids over the 8-week program, which really showed during the local 3x3 Streetball Championships.
Each Community reported that when they cranked up the mandatory 3x3 Streetball soundtrack people of all ages turned up to the courts...the funky soundtrack
& cool coaching lingo was a real draw card!! Several well-respected local Elders were each week seen rock- ing to the music & yelling out the Streetball Lingo they had learned from the coaches “Don’t let them in the house” “be a wall” (Defensive Streetball Skills) as they cheered on from the sidelines.
Everyone, of all ages enjoyed the program including these young boys who begged us to ‘have a go’ even though they were much too young to participate!
Basketball Kimberley would like to recognise and thank the Alcohol & Drug Foundation (ADF) and the Kimber- ley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) for their finan- cial support to make this project possible.
Due to the success of this pilot plans are to offer 3x3 Streetball as a regular program in the Kimberley from 2020 and beyond.
Twelve requests/enquiries have already been received (to date) to run 3x3 Streetball Programs in 2020 of which
7 are new sites and marketing of the program is yet to begin...without a doubt word got around that 3x3 Streetball rocks.
Who enjoyed 3x3 streetball was the question asked
to these Wyndham Streetballers...the success of our objective to increase protective factors such as com- munity engagement, participation, sense of belonging and social connection to assist in the building of strong, resilient, and connected communities.
It's better expressed in this
