Concept
Within the team my task was to propose the Entry reception,
the lobby and cafe area, and the craft store/art studio. The
concept was derived from interactions between humans and
their environment.
Challenges
- Maintaining building safety because the cafe can be accessed
by the public and not just guest of the museum.
- Providing a transformable environment for the kids to perform
art related task while turning into a display for a new exhibit.
- Provide natural light in each space.
Goals
- Have activities and zones for both kids and adults to enjoy.
- Connect the human body to the surrounding land
- Optimize sales for the cafe
- Provide outdoor seating from cafe
Solutions
- To allow more natural light within the space, I specified skylights
for the entry way, as well as floor to ceiling windows in each area.
- Designed a motor powered ceiling/display feature for the
art supply and kidz craft shop, which can raise and lower
transforming the space to fit the needs of the client.
- For space planning my group decided the cafe area should be
separated away from the entire “museum” experience in order to
allow the entire public to use the cafe.
