Your Furry Friend Might Be Looking For an Adventure!
 By Brittany amalfi
Jaxx Smith has always loved dogs since he was a little kid. His first word, in fact, that he could ever spell, was “dog.” Undoubt- edly, Smith has turned his love for dogs into a career with his small business, Mayberry Hills Dog Walking Adventures. There is a lot of heart and soul that goes into a dog-driven business, and Smith absolutely has what it takes to provide adventures for these pups.
I had the opportunity to talk to Jaxx about how he got started with Mayberry Hills Dog walking Adventures, and the young twen- ty-three-year-old has had quite the journey! Smith informed me that he was working for another pet-driven company, and once things changed around a bit, he bought the client list from the owner and began offering his dog walking services. “I just love being outside,” Jax said. “I’m not someone who can stay inside for so long, and I love getting the dogs outdoors, so it’s perfect.” The young dog walker used to work on a farm that had plenty of dogs, but he actually recalls this one cow named Mayberry, and thus the name for Mayberry Hills Dog Walking Adventures was born.
“I thought it would be a really good opportunity,” Smith contin- ued. And it certainly was. Now, at eighteen months into the new business, Smith has about twenty clients and wants to expand! He goes all the way from Gilford to Franklin and offers group walks, solo walks, potty breaks for older dogs who might not walk, and nail trims for both dogs and cats. Jaxx typically walks 3-8 dogs at a time and will offer solo walks
for dogs who might have behavioral problems or needs their alone time.
When asked what his favorite part about all of his adventures was, Jaxx said, “Spending time with all the dogs is just so great. It’s such a peace- ful job to me while also still being exciting with all the pups around.” Of course, with his love of dogs, he has four of his own! Smith gushed about Ozzie, Cricket, Sadie, and Critter.
Jaxx certainly has some long-term goals as well, and to no surprise, they are all dog related! “I would like to keep doing the dog walking long-term, but I’m also looking into being a certified dog trainer,” Smith said. “I would love to have a physical location to offer full- time boarding and more.” It doesn’t just stop there, though.
Smith knows that pet care does not come cheap and that a lot of people can struggle when it comes to providing quality care for their pets. “My biggest goal is to help the Lakes Region have affordable pet care.” Jaxx loves animals, and the dogs he cares for are in good hands with him over at Mayberry Hills.
