Are you a WWII, Korean War, or Vietnam Veteran? Honor Flight New England would like to thank you for your service!
Honor Flight New England is a non-profit founded in 2009 by Joe Byron, to honor America’s most senior Veterans.
The organization transports these Veterans, at no cost to the Veteran, to Washington D.C for the day! Veterans that have top priority for the trip are the most senior or terminally ill.
The Veterans will meet at the airport bright and early and meet their guardian- an adult they will be paired up with for the day. Once they arrive at the airport they are usually met with crowds of people cheering them on and waving flags! Once through security it’s time to relax and perhaps grab a coffee.
New England is looking for you!
GRANITELIFE.ONLINE April/May 2023 Attention Franklin Veterans-Honor Flight
Once on the plane it’s time to get to know everyone! The flight goes by so quickly, and as you land you are met with a water cannon salute! Usually when an honor flight arrives the airport will make an announcement. As you make your way outside to the bus for the day you are met with cheers from the young and old!
Once in Washington D.C it’s time to see your monuments and eat lunch! They visit the WWII monument, Korean War Monu- ment, Marine Corps Memorial, Vietnam Wall, Vietnam Nurses Monument and the Air Force Memorial. The group will also go to Arlington National Cem- etery and visit the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
After a busy day of touring, the day ends with a delicious meal and the trip back home! While on the trip Veterans get
a “mail call.” Each Veteran receives thank you notes from friends, family, and community members! If you or your civic organization would like to send cards to the Veterans to open on the trip mail them to Honor Flight New England PO BOX
16287 Hooksett, NH 03106. Upon arriving back at the airport, another crowd of sup- porters are there to welcome these men and women home! Many for the first time will get the welcome home they never
got.
According to the Honor Flight New England website, since 2009 they have had 63 flights to Washington D.C, trav- eled with 42 Prisoners of War, and served 2,241 Veterans. Of these Veterans, 83 have been women, 27 sets of brothers, and 8 husband/wife couples.
The most recent flight went on May 7, 2023. If you are in- terested in applying for the trip, visit www.honorflightnewen- galnd.org. Click on apply, and fill out the quick application! You can also apply to become a guardian for the trip. If in- terested, fill out the application online.
Honor Flight New England is funded by generous individuals and groups.
