This month’s Shining Star is Soraya Glidden, one of New- found Regional High School’s top student-athletes. In her nearly four years at Newfound, Soraya has been a standout soc- cer player and track and field athlete. She is also ranked in the top ten of Newfound’s senior class and serves as a role model for younger students in the com- munity. In terms of academic achievements, athletic success, and giving back to the commu- nity, Soraya Glidden is one of the best that Newfound Regional High School has to offer.

dent since 2022. She has been a member of Newfound Regional High School’s student-staff sen- ate since 2021 and served as its co-chair since 2022. She was also chosen to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy in 2022. Since 2020, Soraya has constantly sought ways to men- tor younger students in the New- found region.
In her four years at Newfound, Soraya has achieved tremendous academic and athletic success, and many young people in her community have benefitted from her leadership. She has made a tremendous impact on her school and community. Soraya Glidden is one of Newfound’s brightest shining stars.
achieved Summa Cum Laude status each academic year of her high school career. Additionally, she has earned the Excellence in French award for her class each year. Soraya is also a member of the National Honors Society and the Rho Kappa Honors Society, and is a member of Newfound’s math team. In her four years at Newfound, Soraya has distin- guished herself as one of New- found’s top students.
In addition to being an ex- ceptional student, Soraya is also an accomplished athlete. She is a four-year varsity starter for Newfound’s girls’ soccer team, and this year served as a team captain. She is also a captain of the Newfound girls’ track and field team. As a track athlete, she
has competed in the Division III state meet in the 400 meters, and achieved a second-place fin- ish at the Division III state meet in the 4x400 relay in 2021. In that same meet, she became a Division III state champion in the 4x100 meter relay, and last season became a school record holder in the same event. Soraya has helped lead Newfound to the Division III state team champi- onship in each of the last two seasons.
Soraya has been an academic and athletic leader and has served in leadership positions in the greater Newfound com- munity. She has been a member of the Thompson-Tapply Com- munity Center teen council since 2020 and has served as its presi-
