Pasquaney Garden Club and Volunteers Restore Butterfly Garden After Storm Damage
BRISTOL – Recent heavy storms not only destroyed roads and driveways but caused sig- nificant washout of mulch and damaged plants in the lovely Butterfly Garden that graces the river edge behind Minot Sleeper Library in Bristol. The club had a planned workday for July 11th and sent out appeals for help.
The response was wonderful, and a great deal of improvement and seasonal work was accom- plished. Volunteers included three AmeriCorps Stewards who are working this summer with the Newfound Lakes Region Association this summer. The AmeriCorps members serve as Watershed Stewards, spending the season on projects being car- ried out by the NLRA and other watershed protection groups. Applicants for the AmeriCorps steward program must be at least 18 years of age and meet other qualifications for the paid positions. Many thanks to these men and women and to the other volunteers from
the Newfound community who helped at the Butterfly Garden.
The Butterfly Garden is a restful oasis near Bristol Square with garden benches and pic- nic tables for public enjoyment. The Garden is primarily main- tained by Pasquaney Garden Club members using club funds for larger jobs. Seasons like this with unusual weather patterns also create extra maintenance needs. Garden workdays offer an opportunity to talk with Mas- ter Gardeners, visit with other members and volunteers and enjoy the lovely setting. The next workday in the garden behind Minot Sleeper Library in Bristol is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1st, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Pasquaney Garden Club wel- comes anyone who would like to help with gardening, attend club events or become a regular member. Ongoing information about club activities is published in local news and media sources.
