It can be rare to see a high school and an elementary school go out of their way to strengthen their bond in the community. And yet, that is exactly what Franklin High School and Paul Smith Elementary are doing here in Franklin.
For Franklin High School’s principal, David Levesque, he knew as soon as he started here in Franklin that he wanted to build a connection with Paul Smith. “I have a strong belief that high school students can be great role models for elementary students, and when I came here, I wanted to build the relationship between the two.”
And Levesque’s mindset boded well with Paul Smith’s as- sistant principal, Nicole Mazze, who wanted the same thing. “COVID made it very difficult for the schools to have a rela- tionship, but now we can work to strengthen it.” Mazze also went on to explain the “Portrait of a Graduate,” and how their mis- sion is to give back to the com- munity, and how building this relationship is perfect for it.
So far, there have been a few events in which the students from the high school volunteer in some way to help out the Paul Smith students. And every one of them has been a fun and exciting expe- rience for everyone involved!
They had their Giving Tree event, where the high schoolers

a fun-filled experience where they turned the school into a
winter wonderland for the kids. The high school students made hot cocoa, gave it out to the little ones, interacted with them, and
just had a ton of fun all around. Mazze was sure to tell me that she certainly saw a lot of bond- ing happening between the high
