As Plymouth proudly con- tinues this special presentation to their oldest resident, they are asking people to make nomina- tions of someone they believe to be the next honorable holder of the Boston Post Cane. Anyone with recommendations of some- one they believe to be eligible is asked to confidentially submit that person’s name, birthdate, and age to the Town of Plym- outh, Attn. Anne Abear, 6 Post Office Square, Plymouth, N.H. 03264 or email that information to finance@plymouth-nh.org. All submissions must be received on or before May 31, 2023, in order to be considered.

According to “Boston Post Cane: news and history of a New England tradition,” Gro- zier had the specialized canes created by J.F. cipients, too. The only remain- ing stipulation is that the person holding the cane, whether male or female, be a resident of each community for a minimum of ten years before the presenta- tion.
The Boston Post went out of circulation in 1956, but the tradition of the Boston Post Cane lives on. While many of the canes have been lost over the years, approximately 500 of them are still in circulation today, and in recent years, a few have been discovered tucked away in older homes or appear- ing at flea markets and yard sales before being returned to the town for which they were intended.
