The sun is shining, and sum- mer is finally upon us. We’ve had some insanely wet weather, and I know we’re gunning for some warm, sunshine-y days, so what better way to manifest those than to read a fun summer romance? People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry is a heartfelt, funny, and deep love story filled with slow- burn tension, cliche jokes, and two best friends who are simply trying to find their way back to each other.
I’m thoroughly convinced that Emily Henry can do no wrong. She is an absolute master at writ- ing an emotional romance tied up in a big bow of lighthearted- ness and humor. Poppy and Alex are two completely opposite per- sonalities, with Poppy being the extroverted, eccentric social but- terfly and Alex being the strong, stoic, and quiet type. But the
and Alex, they still power through with inside jokes, silly banter, and the lingering feeling of how things used to be between them. As the story progresses, you’ll be clutching the pages, screaming at them to finally just admit their feelings for each other. After all, isn’t that the point of a feel-good romance? Nail-biting stress?
Like Book Lovers, Emily Henry writes a heartwarming story filled with a mess of emotions and strong-willed characters. Peo- ple We Meet on Vacation is the per- fect book to read lakeside or out on the deck as the sun starts to set. There’s nothing better than basking in the summer sun with a good romance that makes you want to tear your hair out!

Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen have been best friends since col- lege, parading on their summer vacations together, enjoying a new destination each time. Until a summer in Croatia two years ago caused them to have a fall- out. Now, a successful travel writer, Poppy wants more than anything to get back to her and Alex’s summer trips and repair the rift that broke them two years ago. When she hatches a plan to go to Palm Springs, where Al- ex’s brother is getting married, charismatic Poppy believes this is what will get her best friend back. Only when the two arrive in Palm Springs, the sweltering weather isn’t the only thing caus- ing tension. Poppy and Alex will have to dive deep into what hap- pened on their ill-fated Croatia trip while also unpacking hidden feelings, secrets, and their very unacknowledged attraction to each other.
thing is—they just work. Henry is known for writing fleshed-out and flawed characters that every- one can root for and relate to. As we learn more about Poppy and Alex, and what makes them who they are, we see them coming together in unconventional ways that make this story unique.
A story set in Palm Springs definitely adds the heat, and there’s just something about a romance being set in vacation, even if it isn’t quite paradise. The weather is equivalent to a sauna, their air conditioning is broken, the pool is filled with
kids, and, you guessed it—there’s only one bed.
However, through all the ob- stacles and turmoil that this trip seems to be throwing at Poppy
