sign, helping to bring the model to life with realistic foliage and painting techniques.
The project had a profound impact on the students and their families. One mother com- mented, "We knew our kids ac- complished quite a feat when they won a national award for their scale model of the Franklin Falls Dam; however, the magni-
tude of it didn’t hit us until we were in Colorado, and the kids were accepting their medals. It left us parents with such a sense of pride at their work, dedica- tion, and knowledge.”
Lexie White, a parent of one of the students, added, "Throughout the process, the kids were treated like gold. That feeling is going to inspire them to
move mountains. I know they’re capable of it."
Transporting the model to and from Denver was made possible by Richard Hobart of Freudenberg-NOK in Bristol, who coordinated the shipping lo- gistics. The trip itself was funded by a $2,500 travel stipend from ASDSO, with additional support from a GoFundMe campaign, which raised $3,200 in just a few days. A local Hill resident gen- erously covered the remaining expenses.
On October 3rd, Jennie D. Blake Elementary School hosted an event where the students showcased their award-winning model and shared their experi- ences. The presentation included a slideshow documenting the project’s journey, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
This heartwarming story of national recognition is a testament to the potential of dedicated students, supportive educators, and a close-knit com- munity. Jennie D. Blake School, along with the town of Hill, couldn’t be prouder of these young achievers.
