BRISTOL — In the New- found Area School District and Hill, the Newfound Every Child Is Ours program is making a significant impact by addressing child hunger in the community. Operated by the Tapply-Thomp- son Community Center (TTCC), this initiative is part of a national nonprofit movement dedicated to ensuring that children in need receive food, especially during weekends when school meal pro- grams are unavailable.
Every week, many children in the Newfound area rely heavily on the breakfast and lunch pro- grams provided by their schools. Unfortunately, when Friday comes, some of these children leave school with little or no food to sustain them over the week- end. The Newfound Every Child Is Ours program aims to change that by sending these children home with bags of nutritious
food, ensuring that no child has to face hunger.
Local groups, including the Bristol Police Department, have partnered with the TTCC to sup- port the Newfound Every Child Is Ours initiative. The collabora- tion strengthens community ties and emphasizes the importance of collective action in combating child hunger.
To maintain the program, organizers are seeking donations of newly purchased, single-serve, pre-packaged food items. They emphasize newly purchased items because food has expira- tion dates, and pre-packaged items ensure sanitary standards are met.
Each week, the program pre- pares bags containing ten differ- ent items, providing a variety of nutritious options for the chil- dren. Suggested donations in- clude apple sauce cups, fruit cups,
granola bars, Cheez-It packets, and other individually wrapped snacks and meals, such as maca- roni and cheese or soup.
Community members inter- ested in supporting the program can drop off donations at the TTCC, located at 30 North Main Street in Bristol, from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Addi- tionally, monetary donations can be made via cash or check made out to the TTCC, or through PayPal at ttcc@metrocast.net, with a note indicating the contri- bution is for the Newfound Every Child Is Ours program.
As the Newfound Every Child Is Ours program continues to grow, it remains dedicated to its mission of preventing child hun- ger, demonstrating the power of community support in making a lasting impact on the lives of local families.
