which will be a 50/50 raffle with a $250 jackpot. Their goal is to sell all 500 tickets and then draw the winners, so this raffle has no time limit. The members will be selling the tickets all around the community, so be on the lookout for those, and check their Face- book page. “It’s a low-pressure fundraiser to start,” Dan said. “We’re just having some fun with it and integrating ourselves into the community.”
Dan also informed me of an- other special fundraiser the Pride Lions Club will be doing at the End of April. Members of the club will be going down to the Dollar Tree in Tilton and asking people for donations. The way this event will work is members will ask people who come into the store to buy an item and do- nate it to the Sunshine Cart for the Veteran’s Home in Tilton. The Sunshine Cart allows vet- erans to pick something off the cart for free. It can be challeng- ing for veterans to get necessities like toothpaste, soap, shampoo, socks, and more, so this is a great
Community
way to ensure they get something they need. The Pride Lions Club will collect items and money at the Dollar Tree. Then, they will purchase goods for the Sunshine Cart themselves if they receive money. “We really want to help veterans,” Vinal continued. The fundraiser will be held on April 29th.
“It’s all about spreading the word,” Dan said. Vinal informed me that they plan to do so much more and more significant events in the future as they grow and come together. “All of the money we raise stays in our community, and we also want to donate time to promote awareness of the veterans. We just want to help. That’s our goal.”
The Pride Lions Club had its first meeting on April 5th, and Dan told me it went very
well! The Governor of District 44, John Wynne, was in atten- dance. They accomplished a lot as they discussed their plans, talked about memberships, and changed around officers. They talked a lot about fundraising efforts and have some exciting things planned for the future. And there are talks about an- other fundraiser this summer. There are a lot of exciting things happening for the Pride Lions Club, and the community is look- ing forward to all of its efforts to serve. Dan said, “Our mission is to be a club that serves.” And with how hard they are work- ing despite being a brand new branch, there is no doubt that the Pride Lions Club will do amaz- ing things as they give back to their community.
The Andover Service Club for Women (ASC) commences its Spring Speaker Series this month, and invites women from Andover and surround- ing towns/cities to attend free of charge. The events are open to both club members and non-members. Both events will be held at the Highland Lake Grange Hall, on the corner of Rte. 11 & Chase Hill Road, East Andover, NH. Take this oppor- tunity to be delighted by two dynamic speakers, both with a story to tell!
On Wednesday, May 10 at 10 a.m. the ASC welcomes New Hampshire story teller, au- thor and comedian Rebecca Rule for what will no doubt be a light hearted, fun-filled pre- sentation. Rebecca has written several books including That Re- minds Me of a Funny Story, and the ASC’s favorite, Live Free and Eat Pie. A native of New Hampshire, Rebecca regales audiences with her stories of visits throughout the state, sharing the unique and highly entertaining qualities of
the people of New Hampshire. Interested in joining other women from Andover and sur- rounding towns in supporting your community through volun- teerism, while enjoying personal and professional growth through club membership and activities? The Andover Service Club for Women offers members many opportunities to join other local women in fun events, luncheons, classes, and the chance to “lend a hand” with the club’s varied committees, including the Ando- ver Thrift & Gift Shop, Proctor Cakes, or the ASC’s well known “Slices for Scholarship” pie sales. Members participate based on their individual interests and as their schedules permit. Con- tact Membership Chairperson Anne Hewitt for more infor- mation about what the Ando- ver Service Club has to offer at 603-848-5762, or email her at anne5762@live.com. Anne will also be available at the presen- tations to answer any questions about membership for those that
have interest.
- PET OF THE MONTH -
Meet SAWYER!
Meet Sawyer (aka Soy Sauce)! This 1-year-old Boxer/ Beagle mix is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations, neutered, and is one of the sweetest dogs you’ll come across. He loves dogs, older kids (preferably 10 or older), and even cats! Sawyer is a little skittish in new surroundings and will need a patient owner who will help to build his confidence. Zoomies are in full swing with this pup, so we recommend that his human enroll him in obedience classes (potentially an advanced level) or doggie daycare. The good news is that Sawyer is well on his way to being a fully trained dog, as he knows sit and paw – and he strives to please! Visit our Adoptable Pets and send us a message!
