With every new year comes new resolutions. And typically, those resolutions look similar every year. Now, disclaimer, there is nothing wrong with keeping the same resolution if that is what works for people! But I’m here to offer up a little twist on how peo- ple look at new year’s resolutions and how we can approach those year-long goals a bit differently.
Let’s be honest; a year-long goal can be tremendously over- whelming. Something to ac- complish over twelve months? At times, that can get lost in the chaos of everything the year can throw at someone. So, I wonder, how do we feel about monthly resolutions?
Hear me out. What if, instead of setting one goal for the whole year, we set smaller goals for each
month? The best thing about this is that anyone can pick small things they want to work on, and they can decide what month they wish to work on it. That way, people are setting smaller goals over the course of the year, and by the end, they’ve achieved so much more!
If I really think about it, there are so many things I would want to work on over the whole year, so setting specific months to work on each goal makes looking at the big picture easier.
For example, some things I would want to work on in 2023 would be health, fitness, orga- nization, new hobbies, quitting a habit, saving money, travel- ing, spending less time on social media, and more!
So here’s a detailed plan of what my 2023 New Year’s reso- lutions would look like.
January: Health
• Create a food plan each week that has nutritious food that fuels my body
• Plan a solid eating schedule each week that includes break- fast, lunch, dinner, and snacks
• Set aside time for takeout and going out to eat
February: Fitness
• Look into daily exercises that Icandotohelpgetmybody moving
• Plan a gym or fitness schedule each week to stay active
• Plan out periods when I’m doing said gym or fitness time so I know how much time I need to set aside
• Set workout goals for each week
March: Saving Money
• Buy a budget journal
• Write down all big and neces-
sary expenses
• Write down my budget for each
week
• Create an “extra expense” chart for unnecessary purchases
April: Quitting a Habit
Write down how many times a week I participate in the habit
Begin a plan on how I will cut back on the habit each week
Track how much I do said habit and document how much I have decreased
May: Travel More
• I’m not talking about traveling to a new place every day!
• Plan out places I want to go that would be possible for this year • Budget out big trips and plan
dates for them
• Make a “big list” of everywhere
I would want to go
• Plan out small trips to places
that are able to go by driving
All in all, everyone approaches their New Year’s resolutions dif- ferently. But if there’s anyone out there looking for a new way to tackle all of those goals, then the month-to-month method might be worth trying! My big- gest piece of advice would be to write down everything you want to work on first, and then choose the months you want to work on each goal, and take it from there. A new year is a new opportunity for more goals and adventures, so why not start thinking outside the box? A new year means new possibilities!
