Fresh and Fun Finds: Farmers’ Markets are Back By BRittaNy amalfi
Get ready to mark your cal- endars—farmers' markets are back in full swing across New Hampshire! Longtime favorite markets are popping up all over the region, giving you plenty of reasons to explore. With so many options to choose from this sea- son, now’s the perfect time to start planning your weekend stops and mapping out your fa- vorites. Whether you’re after fresh produce, handmade goods, or just a good excuse to get out- side, there’s a market out there for everyone.
Canaan’s Farmers and Ar- tisans Market is excited to an- nounce its opening on May 18th! Every Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM, the market will be open on the Common, offering a variety of local foods, crafts, and enter- tainment. If you're looking for locally grown and handmade goodies, Canaan’s Farmers Mar- ket is the place to be. Located in Canaan, NH, near the base of Mt. Cardigan, this eclectic market brings together the best local producers. Here, you’ll find fresh produce, farm-raised meats, breads, baked goods, jams, jel- lies, pickles, prepared foods, and more. The market also offers music, making it a perfect spot to enjoy the community atmo- sphere and discover something new.
The Bristol Open Air Market
will open for the season on May 17th and will be open every Sat- urday from mid-May through Columbus Day Weekend, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The mar- ket features a variety of local of- ferings, including fresh flowers, baked goods, handmade jewelry, and more. It’s a great spot to ex- plore unique items and enjoy the vibrant community atmosphere all summer.
For residents who prefer to keep things virtual this year, Local Foods Plymouth (LFP) will continue running its online mar- ket and curbside pick-up. As the first online farmers market in the country, LFP launched in 2006 through a collaboration between D Acres Educational Farm and the Plymouth Area Renewable Energy Initiative (PAREI). The
innovative platform connects local buyers with area farmers, supporting local businesses, res- idents, and non-profit organi- zations by providing fresh local goods. Additionally, LFP aims to raise awareness about the energy consumption tied to food sourc- ing.
Online order pick-up is avail- able every Thursday from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the PAREI office, located at the second
driveway on Fairgrounds Rd. near the corner of Route 3 in North Plymouth. If you're de- layed or need to make other ar- rangements, please contact LFP at 603-536-5030 x 104 or email localfoodsplymouth@gmail.com. Since its start, the online market has grown from 9 to 40 farmers and food producers, and during the pandemic, it expanded by 630%, adding curbside pick-up and home delivery options.
