Newfound Regional High School News Round-Up
Newfound Regional High School is buzzing with activity this winter, from festive fundraisers to impressive achievements in aca- demics, arts, and sports. Students have been hard at work spreading holiday cheer, competing in math meets, preparing for career explo- ration opportunities, and gearing up for winter sports and perfor- mances. Here’s a look at some of the recent and upcoming high- lights that showcase the talents and dedication of the Newfound community.
Gingerbread House Raffle Raises Funds for Local Services
Newfound Regional High School's holiday spirit was on full display during the annual Ginger- bread House Raffle, organized by Ms. Ohl and some dedicated students. This particular year has been Ms. Ohl’s twelfth year doing the Gingerbread House Raffle! As part of their Child Development
and Quick & Easy Meal classes, students crafted 16 beautifully decorated gingerbread houses, which were featured in a silent raffle during the school day and at the winter concert. Attendees were also invited to vote for their favorite house, adding an extra layer of excitement. The event raised $160, all of which was donated to Bristol Community Services, supporting local families during the holiday season.
Math Team’s Success at Recent Meet
The Newfound Math Team has had an impressive start to the season, with two meets under their belt. At their most recent meet on Wednesday, December 11th, 19 students competed, al- lowing the school to field two teams. The teams finished second and fourth in the Small School Division, showcasing their math-
ematical skills. With a strong turn- out and excellent performances, the Math Team is setting a high bar for the rest of their season.
Winter Sports Season in Full Swing
Winter sports are underway at NRHS, with teams excited to hit the ground running after the hol- iday break. Highlights include the boys' and girls' basketball teams, the alpine skiing team, and the Unified Basketball team, which exemplifies school spirit and in- clusion. As games and meets pick up in the coming weeks, the school community is excited to cheer on their Bears throughout the season.
Career Exploration Opportunity in January
In January, juniors, seniors, and select sophomores will have the chance to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Bat-
tery (ASVAB). This test measures students’ strengths and aptitudes, providing insights into potential military careers and other pro- fessional paths. While not man- datory, the ASVAB serves as a valuable tool for career explora- tion and planning for those who participate.
End-of-January One-Act Play Competition
The school’s drama depart- ment is gearing up for its an- nual One-Act Play Competition, which will take place on January 31st. Students from all grade lev- els—freshmen, sophomores, ju- niors, and seniors—will compete.
This well-known tradition allows students to showcase their theatri- cal talents while fostering friendly student rivalry.
As the Newfound community looks ahead to the new year, the achievements and activities of its students continue to reflect their creativity, dedication, and school spirit. Whether excelling in aca- demics, performing on stage, or giving back to the community, Newfound Regional High School is a place where students thrive. Here's to an exciting and success- ful 2025!
Stay tuned for more updates as the winter season continues.
