the back roads, ha ha, but at least during hunting season they know enough to stay close to homes and roadways. Good luck!
I am also thankful for my me- chanic Harold and his crew who keep me going on the back roads; my son Criag who took my air conditioner out of the window and does many of the other household things that always need to be done; my neighbors Pete and Debbie who never hes- itate to answer my sudden “911” calls; and all the others who step in to be my “part time husbands” when no one else is around. Liv- ing on your own isn’t always easy and their assistance is very deeply appreciated.
So, I guess last but not least is to give a big thanks this No- vember to the people who have reached out to me with com- ments and support for what I do here for the local papers. It truly means more than you know. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

So the month of November is here, signaling an end to the many outdoor activities we’ve enjoyed this summer and fall. Now it’s time to prepare for yet another New England winter.
As we wave farewell to the beaches, barbecues, boating and hiking trails it is time to give thanks for all we have enjoyed and all we’ve been blessed with this year.
Before I begin my personal list however, I want to give a shout out to all those living on the back roads of N.H. for their outstand- ing Halloween decorations last month. They sure know how to put on a show! Driveways, mail- boxes, yards and even the homes themselves were covered with some amazing, spooky sights to behold. A special shout out to the residents on the back roads in Hill for going above and beyond at some homes. I applaud you!
Now for the real stuff and I will not make this the token
thanks, but have to start by saying I’m very grate- ful for the love of my sib- lings, amazing children and grandchildren, as well as the friends who got me through what started off as a sad year when my dad joined my mom in Heaven. It meant so much to me.
We live in an amazing
state though- the most forested state (percent- age-wise) in the coun-
try and for that I give thanks! It is also one of the earlier states to join the union and its history runs deep into the late 1600s, especially along the Seacoast. Having grown up actually living in the midst of early American history in Washington’s Crossing State Park, I love every historic marker, old home, farm and even stone wall I see. They’re all part of who we are and where we came from. I give thanks also to those who seek to preserve that history.
I have lived in rural N.H. for almost 50 years now, appreciat- ing the local artisans, store keep- ers and community events that make small towns a wonderful place to live. Why shop at the box stores when there’s so much to be found right at home? Keep up the great work one and all. I am thankful for you!
I am also grateful for my op- portunities to do a good deed each and every day. Whether it’s picking up litter, helping a se- nior pump gas, or load their car
with groceries, I am there. Giving neighbors a ride or handing out lollipops to kids in my neighborhood as well. I love the smiles. I’m not patting myself on the back- only hoping oth- ers might join the pleasure of my “Good Deed a Day” mantra. It makes me grate- ful when I can help others.
Okay.Ibetalotofyou are now begrudgingly waiting for me to turn to my most beloved - critters.
Well, here you go because it’s at the top of my list of things I thank God for every day.
This month has been filled with the thrill of sudden and unexpected deer encounters, the bears I’ve encountered, a “mur- der” of crows, too many flocks of turkeys, as well as wood ducks, herons, mergansers, loons and hawks, all preparing for their annual migration. Each sight- ing is a gift and I am grateful for them all. Well, perhaps not al- ways seeing the turkeys who clog
