Summer is always a time for rest and relaxation, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be op- portunities to grow and learn be- yond the classroom. Newfound Regional High School’s commit- ment to providing students with different opportunities extends beyond the school year with its summer enrichment programs.
Over the years, Newfound Re- gional High School (NRHS) has provided its students with authen- tic opportunities to participate in a variety of summer enrichment programs, each designed to broaden their perspectives and foster a deeper connection to the

world around them. These pro- grams are created d to encour- age intellectual growth, promote social interaction, and help stu- dents develop skills that will ben- efit them both academically and personally. Among the most im- pactful of these programs is the Bridge Academy, which can help ease the transition for incom- ing first-year students. Through this program, new students are invited to the school for a desig- nated period, allowing them to experience a typical high school day and get a glimpse of what their upcoming school year will look like.
The Bridge Academy’s pri- mary focus is building strong connections among students through engaging team-build- ing activities designed to lay a solid foundation for their future success. This initiative gives first- year students the chance to meet and interact with their peers and the school staff in a supportive environment. These interactions are crucial in helping them feel more comfortable and confi- dent as they step into their new roles as high school students. The Bridge Academy was held on two separate occasions, from July 9th to 12th and again from
July 16th to 19th, offering stu- dents ample time to participate in a range of exciting activities. These activities included geo- caching and scavenger hunts, both of which are fun and stra- tegically designed to encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Through these experiences, students were able to forge new friendships and establish a sense of belonging, setting a positive tone for their high school journey.
Other summer enrichment programs included Exploring Nature with Mrs. Cutting, Visual Journaling with Mrs. Hutchins,
and Fishing with Mr. Dumont. Participating in these programs also gives students elective credits.
Newfound Regional High School’s summer enrichment programs demonstrate that learning and personal growth can extend beyond the tradi- tional school year. By offering a diverse range of activities, from the Bridge Academy to nature exploration, visual journaling, and fishing, NRHS provides students with opportunities to develop academically, socially, and emotionally during the summer months. These pro- grams not only prepare students for the challenges of the upcom- ing school year but also foster a sense of community and con- nection that will serve them well throughout their high school ex- perience and beyond. Through initiatives like these, Newfound Regional High School continues to support its students’ growth, ensuring their summer break is exciting and memorable.
