Voices Against Violence Hosts Fourth Annual Dancing Under the Stars
The Fourth Annual Dancing Under the Stars event lit up Kel- ley Park in Bristol this year, bring- ing the community together for an evening of rhythm, fun, and philanthropy. The fundraiser raised just over $10,000, helping support Voices Against Violence and spotlighting the talent and generosity of dancers from across the region.
The Voices Award, given to the couple that raises the most funds overall, was claimed once again by Charlene and Nancy, who defended their title from last year. Charlene, a dedicated line dance instructor, hosts classes every Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at TTCC, welcoming par- ticipants for just $10 per session. Nancy, an accomplished line dancer, has become an integral part of the Newfound commu- nity and brought her signature energy to the event. Together, the duo set a high bar for fundraising and dancing.
The People’s Award went to Bridget and Ben. Bridget, a member of the Newfound com- munity and an employee of one of the Voice’s sister agencies, was thrilled to share her passion for the cause. Ben, her cousin, was introduced to the event this year and quickly embraced the fun, even learning to swing dance in time for the competition. Their warmth and enthusiasm cap- tured the audience's hearts, earn- ing them this popular award.
The Judges Award was pre- sented to Mira and Jeff. Mira, a dance teacher and schoolteacher at the Covered Bridge in Camp-
ton, brought her extensive expe- rience and charm to the floor. Jeff, who has served as a profes- sional dancer for the event for countless years, provided his sig- nature guidance and flair. Their performance impressed the judges and spectators, solidifying their reputation as stalwarts of the local dance community.
This year, the event also fea- tured standout performances from Synergy Dance School and Newfound Dance Company. Catie Roman, owner of New- found Dance Company, wowed the audience as she danced alongside her talented students, showcasing the skill and dedica- tion of the next generation of performers.
Synergy Dance School, co- owned by Samantha and her husband Jeff, added a new twist to the event. Instead of Saman- tha performing as a professional dancer, five of her students com- peted in two groups, demonstrat- ing their poise, precision, and passion for dance. The decision to feature students highlighted the school’s commitment to nur- turing young talent and gave the audience a fresh perspective on the art form.
Marcie Gowen-Nobley thanked the Bristol Events Com- mittee for inviting them back this year and helping make the event a success. “We can’t say thank you enough,” she noted. The community has always been so supportive of Voices Against Vi- olence’s mission.
As the event ended, attendees left happy and impressed by the
hard work and talent of everyone involved. The Fourth Annual Dancing Under the Stars once
again proved to be a standout event in Bristol, showing what the community can achieve
when it comes together.
