It may have been summer break, but the Newfound Area School District was booked and busy! Extended School Year pro- gramming served 57 students, and this opportunity was based at New Hampton Community School and Newfound Memorial Middle School. Competency recovery was also offered in June at NRHS.
As usual, it was a very busy summer at Newfound Regional High School.
Acadia Adventure: The ecol- ogy and economics of Acadia Na- tional Park journeyed to Maine with twelve students in June. Challenging hikes, field ecological studies, indigenous culture studies, impacts of public lands, and much more were all part of the four-day experience based at Schoodic In- stitute. As one participant wrote,
Heating Up This Summer
Extended School Year Programming Was
"This trip really had an impact on me as I learned many things and stepped out of my comfort zone."
Bridge Academy was held in July for students coming to NRHS as ninth graders. Two four-day sessions were held from 9 am to 3 pm. This Extended Learning Opportunity focuses on skills and content that bridge students to the high school experience.
Westward Bound travelled in August with twelve participants and an additional two students in leadership roles. This week-long excursion is the culmination of many weeks of preparation. The students visit iconic locations after completing research on these sites. This program is a collaboration between NRHS and the Tapply Thompson Community Center.
The week of August 11th was
the Newfound Memorial Mid- dle School Mid Step program for incoming fifth graders. This program is designed to prepare the rising Middle Schoolers for not only the change in location but also the joining together of
multiple elements. Kindergarten Connections is underway at Bris- tol Elementary School. Tech Skills for Life, a summer learning op- portunity, is currently in progress at NRHS. This allows students to achieve a graduation requirement
over the summer.
Additional summer projects,
including facility and technology upgrades, professional develop- ment, including AP Camp, and curriculum development, have been happening throughout the summer!
Additionally, the team work- ing on the NASD Strategic Plan has been hard at work taking the collected stakeholder input and creating a simple-to-use strategic document. This document has been circulated back to stakehold- ers for input, so look for an excit- ing new plan to launch in early fall!
Newfound Area School District is always busy and alive during the summer months! For district-wide information, check out the up- dated district website, sau4.org.
