structure, Amish carpenters from Pennsylvania! So a call was made to Beach Creek, Pennsylvania. The Amish craftsmen responded positively. A half dozen men ar- rived just after Christmas, and the completed exterior of the build- ing, resting on a foundation laid by Hall’s Excavation, was stand- ing in seven days! So, it was time to begin filling the facility with an appealing assortment of prod- ucts.
Holly and Amanda had acted as buyers during COVID, but the overcrowded shelves and the small space in what was once a breakfast area limited their abil- ity to expand the inventory they envisioned. That inventory would be mainly, but not exclusively, clothing. There would also be a new assortment of appealing hand-designed “Newfound Lake” memorabilia. Mom and daughter are style conscious and chose the best-quality name brands for the new apparel. There would be a selection of Frye and Birken- stock shoes, boots, and sandals. Carhartt would deliver an assort- ment of pants and outerwear. For
hands-on working folks, Caterpil- lar Clothing was now available. With “onesies” now in the store, there were clothes for all ages.
The most unique innovation in the transformed store is the availability of virtual golf. This has to be seen to be believed. Two bays on the first floor of the ad- dition provide space for large 12’ x 20’ movie screens. The player can choose from a computerized list of 600 golf courses. Standing 15 feet back from the screen, the player can drive, chip, or putt through every hole, using real clubs. The distance of each swing and the resulting location of the ball is projected on the screen, as is the score.
Although this writer found the store with its impressive ex- panded line of products and in- novative recreation facility to be a worthy discovery for anyone, there was another dimension of this article’s research that was just as appealing..the relationship be- tween the two managers, Holly and Amanda, and their staff of 29 employees. The employees repeatedly conveyed stories of
Holly, Amanda, and Craig Hall’s generosity and their care and compassion for them. These sto- ries included homes being pro- vided for homeless employees, footing the bill for medical care, buying a car for a worker without transportation, etc. Holly under- scored her great respect for em- ployees and wanted to recognize individuals in this article. Unfor- tunately, space makes it impossi- ble to recognize all of those Holly named, but a few are mentioned here: Jason Avery (Chef), Mike Neary (Deli Manager), Melissa Bavis and Tricia Lubera (Floor Managers) )and Carolyne Tun- nell (Bakery Manager). All who work at the Newfound Country Store are considered “family,” and the store is felt to be, for its owners and employees alike, an important “destination.” The Newfound Country Store family hopes that customers will experi- ence the store to be a worthy des- tination as well.

The caption under the front page picture of two decorated firefighters in the May 2023 issue was incorrectly identified. A clarification follows. As the reader looks at the picture, John Bianchi, (the taller of the two gentlemen) appears on the left. The late Bob Patten (not wearing glasses) appears on the right. We thank our alert readers for pointing out the error and are grateful to the Bianchi and Patten families for their understanding.
