their tanks, logistics vehicles, and equipment – guns and ammo – are still
intact.”
“So, take a look around at your fellow Marines, maybe one or two
out of five will survive these obstacle belts. It will take great skill and
dedication to duty to continue with what you will see. You may have to be
jumping vehicles, from one that is operational, from one that has been
destroyed or disabled. Be flight a foot and fast thinking. What you do while
you are in the assault and the decisions you will make are what will keep you
alive. I will go now. I’ve got other ground units to visit with updates of
expected encounters and confrontations. Remember, we are Marines, and
this is what we do. Good luck Marines.” With that, the Captain turned and
began to trot over to the waiting chopper.
With a great burst of wind and power, the CH-53 Sea Stallion lifted
off, banked hard to the right, and disappeared into the desert horizon.
