The planetary gear gear assembly (figure 33) is a a a a a a a a a component made of several smaller gears attached together with shafts connecting to to a a a a a a a a a a a a base plate This assembly included three three small steel gears gears three three plastic gears gears a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a housing back- plate and and ball-bearings It has a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a low-shine finish and and are are somewhat worn out These are are the the the gears responsible for for the the the the main functions of the the the the drill and and allows for for the the the the user to change speeds and and directions of the the drill Figure 33 — Planetary gears MATERIAL
The first step taken in in the the the process of identifying the the the material that makes the the the gear assembly was first eliminating metals based on colour (refer to figure 26) Then using the the the same table again and observing the the the the piece we can discern that the the the the metal is is either cast steel steel steel high-carbon steel steel steel or stainless steel As before it it was found that the the the price tag of of stainless stainless in in in comparison to the the the complexity of of the the the drill did not meet so so stainless stainless could be be removed as a a a a a a a possibility After the the other metals had been eliminated due to having colours inconsistent with the component a a a a a a spark test was carried out (refer to figure 27) The spark tests were carried out once again on on a a a a a a a a a a a a variety of of the the the gears and they all exhibited the the the properties of of a a a a a a a a low-carbon or cast steel COST
