Firsts Basketball

T he AGSV Firsts basketball season started off promisingly Carmel Catholic College. The next game, against St Augustine’s,
Cairns, was the decider as to whether we got into the top half of
after some competitive losses against dominant teams. We
went down by less than six points to powerhouses Trinity and the division or the bottom half. It was a tightly contested game
Mentone and came back from a 15-point deficit to secure a win but we came out victorious 39 to 29. This win secured our spot
against PEGS – our first and only win for the season amid many in the top eight.

The season was disappointing, but we trained hard and looked and secured a position in the top four. Unfortunately, we were up
forward to redeeming ourselves at the Marist Basketball Carnival against Marcellin again. It was another close game but they got
at St Joseph’s in Sydney. In game one we faced Marist Regional the better of us winning 39 to 29. In our final game we played
College and defeated them 48 to 25. That dominant first win arch rivals Sacred Heart College, Adelaide for third and fourth
boosted our morale and we were ready for Marcellin in game place. We finished in third place out of 24 Marist schools after
two. In the regular AGSV season we lost to them by over 50 a 51 to 45 victory over Sacred Heart. [Editor’s note: Keenan was
