               vang A tackle positioned on the vessel to prevent the boom from raising.

               whip Wrap the end of rope with small stuff to prevent the rope from unlaying.

               wire rope A plurality of strands laid helically around an axis or a core.
               working  load  A  manufacturer’s  recommendation  of  the  maximum  pounds  of
               pull to which a rope can safely be subjected; generally, one-tenth the new rope’s
               breaking strength.

               working part The end of the rope you are using to make a splice (compare with
               standing part).

               yarn A group of fibers twisted together; thread.
