MOVING CHECKLIST AND HELPFUL TIPS
p Make a moving folder to stay organized
p Get boxes and packing supplies – tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, etc.
p Have a garage sale and donate unsold items to a local charity
p Remove and pack items kept in the attic, crawl space or special storage areas
p Clean out safe deposit box
p Separate valuables and heirlooms and pack separately so they don’t get lost
p Reserve a rental truck or book a moving company
p Gather important personal, legal, fi- nancial, medical and dental records
p Arrange for transfer of school(s) p Notify post office, financial
institutions, lenders, insurance companies, schools, doctors, friends and family of your change of address
p Properly dispose of items that cannot be moved or thrown away such as chemicals, flammable liquids and batteries
p Drain water hoses p Refill prescriptions

p Have cash on hand for tips
p Double check every room...twice!
p Prepare an “open first” box with cleaning items, tools, light bulbs, scissors, tape, etc.
p Arrange a baby sitter and/or pet sitter (if appropriate)
p Install new locks on doors
For the NEW OWNERS:
p Organize any paint, carpet, tile or other items that will stay with the home
p Be sure to leave all included items that are a part of the contract such as window treatments, rods, appliances, light fixtures, mirrors, etc.
p Make arrangements for disposing of any remaining trash
p Leave garage door openers, codes and manuals at the home

p Arrange to disconnect utilities, cancel trash service, cable, internet, etc.
p Make arrangements for cleaning both the home you’re leaving and the new home
p Empty, clean and defrost your refrigerator/freezer
