Notice to Members
The MLTAV Executive Team and Committee Members were deeply saddened by the news that Dr. Jane Orton passed away on 31 January 2020.
Dr. Orton has made a major contribution in Australia to the promotion of Languages and culture. She will be sorely missed for her tireless efforts to improve the quality and outcomes of Languages education locally, nationally and internationally.
Jane’s passing has led to an outpouring of grief among practicing teachers of Chinese, many of who recognise her as the inspiration for their teaching practice and a compassionate mentor and supervisor who always sought to assist teachers to see the classroom from the perspective of the learners themselves.
As a long-term, and active, member of the MLTAV, many of our Office Bearers and Committee members, past and present, had the honour and privilege of witnessing first-hand Jane’s steadfast commitment to, and passion for, Languages Education, (particularly for Chinese Language). Jane’s expertise, knowledge, experience, consummate professionalism and softly-spoken calm disposition will be missed by a great many both professionally and personally.
The MLTAV intends to publish a Vale in dedication to Dr. Jane Orton, in its July edition of Languages Victoria. Should any MLTAV member wish to contribute in some way to the drafting of the Vale, by sharing individual stories about having been influenced by Jane and / or her work in your own professional Language teaching practice, we invite you to make contact with Kerry @ the MLTAV Office via info@mltav.asn.au.
