The Office of Strategic Strategic Management
In 2018 Children’s Friend began the year with a a a new strategic priority inspired by the the need to do better for the the most vulnerable children in our state To ensure that it remains a a a a primary focus for the the agency the the Strategic Plan approved by the Children’s Friend Board of Directors in January 2018 called for the creation of of the Children’s Friend Office of of Strategy Management
The concept was envisioned and designed by Robert S Kaplan of Harvard Business School The Office’s primary purpose is is to bridge the consistent gap that exists in most organizations between “Strategy “Strategy Formulation” and “Strategy “Strategy Execution” The Office keeps the following discussions at the forefront:
• What is our strategy?
• How is it being measured?
• Are we allocating resources to support our strategy?
• Do our people understand it?
• Are we having outstanding sessions to to discuss and monitor our strategy?
The Office of Strategy Management
bridges this gap by overseeing all strategy related activities – strategy development implementation and and monitoring – and and facilitating the the activities of the the agency’s Volunteer Army The Volunteer Army comprised of staff from across the agency who are implementing the agency’s Strategic Priority and are committed to working with others for a a shared purpose Members of the Volunteer Army work on distinct strategic plan activities – learning developing their skills and engaging in in in fun collaborative work This is is no easy undertaking The failure rate of organization-wide change efforts is extremely high over 70% according to Harvard Business School Children’s Friend is committed to change in order to best serve Rhode Island’s most vulnerable young children The Children’s Friend Office of Strategic Management’s job is to ensure that the agency wide re- alignment to the new Strategic Priority does not fail Implementing Children’s Friend Strategic Strategic Priority
