and depravity. They are full of envy,
murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They
are gossips, slanderers, … insolent, arro-
gant, and boastful; they invent ways of
doing evil; they disobey their parents;
they are senseless, faithless, heartless,
ruthless. (Romans, 1: 29-31)
The Torah
They would not be like their forefathers –
[rather, they were] a stubborn and rebel-
lious generation, whose hearts were not
loyal to God, whose spirits were not
faithful to Him. (Psalm, 78: 8)
Suppose he has a violent son who sheds
blood or does any of these other things:
He eats at the mountain shrines. He de-
files his neighbor's wife. He oppresses the
poor and needy. He commits robbery. He
does not return what he took in pledge.
He looks to the idols. He does detestable
things. (Ezekiel, 18: 10-12)
He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that
their hands achieve no success. He catch-
es the wise in their craftiness, and the
schemes of the wily are swept away. (Job,
5: 12-13)
Do not spread false reports. Do not help
a wicked man by being a malicious wit-
