A Call for Unity
Thinking
In the Qur'an Allah invites people to think. Allah com-
mands them to reflect on its verses, humanity's creation,
natural phenomenon, His gifts, and other beings. Believers
are told to think carefully when evaluating events so that
they can help other people comprehend the profound evi-
dence for Allah's existence and the magnitude of His cre-
ation. One verse Allah reveals this reality:
In the creation of the heavens and Earth, the alterna-
tion of the night and the day, the ships that sail the
seas to people's benefit, the water that Allah sends
down from the sky – by which He brings Earth to life
when it was dead and scatters about in it creatures of
every kind – the varying direction of the winds, and
the clouds subservient between heaven and Earth
there are Signs for people who use their intellect.
(Surat Al-Baqara: 164)
In the Qur'an Allah also reveals that believers reflect
deeply while drawing conclusions:
In the creation of the heavens and the Earth, and the al-
ternation of night and day, there are Signs for people
with intelligence: those who remember Allah, stand-
ing, sitting, and lying on their sides, and reflect on the
creation of the heavens and Earth: "Our Lord, You have
not created this for nothing. Glory be to You! So safe-
guard us from the punishment of the Fire." (Surah Al
'Imran: 190-91)
