One of the many discoveries
that corroborates this
fact is the 38- to 23-mil-
lion-year-old crab fossil
shown here. Like other
crab fossils found in
Denmark, this one was
found in one of the nod-
ules that come to the surface of the earth only at
specific times of the year. Most of these fossils are
called "crab balls" most of which belong to the
Oligocene period 38-23 million years ago.
