I hope you are all enjoying the summer and getting full use of the Club, your boat (if you’re lucky enough to own one) and getting over to the Island if you are not a boat owner.
Some initiatives that impressed me in my first few weeks were the ‘No Boat, No Problem’ and the adult Learn-to-Sail program. Many non-members assume your path to Membership at a yacht club is to purchase a boat and then find a Club to join. With these offerings, we break down significant barriers to prospective Members joining the Club, but more importantly, we offer considerable incentives to existing non-sailor members to test out the sport. I encourage you to look into these programs and avail of them if you’re interested.
The following are some ongoing updates on initiatives we’re working on:
Dinghy Shed clean up is complete, thank you to everyone for cooperating with this initiative. We ask that you keep the sliding doors closed to prevent unwelcome visitors returning. We’ll also put spring closers on the single doors to help in this regard. Again, if you see any reoccurring issues with this building, please use the Property@RCYC.ca email address.
Island Buildings general repair with the painting and repair to three buildings on the South Island is also complete and your feedback has been outstanding, which is great to see. We will continue working on this initiative through the autumn as weather permits.
Tag and Remove Program will be considered and implemented by the Harbour and Property Committee. It will serve to clean up all of our Island property and ensure that all items owned by Members are either in lockers, on boats or tagged for removal. Now that all Committees are formed and are working away, you will see this programme roll out over the coming weeks. These initiatives are all part of our larger desire to restore ‘Pride of Ownership’ with some areas of the Island.
Sea Bins is a new initiative introduced by Ports Toronto as a pilot project and are basically floating garbage collectors. Several Members have flagged the initiative and Doug Bullock has taken a lead on this
for the Club. We are currently demonstrating a unit to determine its effectiveness. If it proves successful, we will investigate purchasing more.
Property Manager hiring will be delayed for several months but in the meantime we are introducing a standard email address for any property related issues; Property@RCYC.ca Please email this address if you see something significant that needs to be addressed around the property and we will respond as quickly as possible, even to just acknowledge that items are on the radar and being addressed.
Sports Program Registration started on Wednesday, August 7th so hopefully you managed to sign up for your preferred programs. Please stay tuned for some exciting announcements on new programming for autumn/winter 2019/2020.
If I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you, I look forward to that. If you would like to meet informally over a coffee or just for a chat, please reach out; 416.934.4401 or Neil.Rooney@RCYC.ca I’m always delighted to hear your thoughts and opinions on how we can improve your experience at the Club.
