 light wind sailing, a reach on flat water, the wind dropped to one knot. While the average time to cross the lake to Youngstown was just under five hours, all participants taking advantage of the “engine hours rule”! Congratulation to Brennan family’s Irish Mist III, a Tartan 46, winner of the Non-Flying Sail division to Youngstown, claiming the Normand Award. And to Big Lou, with Michael Egberts and Catherine Kierans, who managed to stay just ahead Sceptre and claim the Beaver Shield for the best corrected time in the Non-Flying Sail Division to Youngstown. A highlight of the social event is the contest of the best hors d’oeuvre. Alyssa van Graft of Celeste II, was the winner this year, with her stuffed endives with cream cheese, crushed hickory smoked almonds, and pepper jelly. YYC had cancelled many large sailing events at their club this year because of operational and capacity issues caused by the flooding but staff and members went out of their way to support and accommodate the Terry O’Connell Rally. The return started out as a “light-air” day but then soon some large rollers came in but finally the fleet was off on a beam-reach in a tight pack, in some of the best sailing conditions. Thanks again to Mark Boudreau for organizing this great event. Don’t miss next year’s Rally!

Terry O’Connell Race/Cruise, July 6th–7th
This year, because of high water issues and mooring capacity constraints at YYC, only fifteen boats were able to participate, and three boats from YYC made the trip to RCYC. All decided to take the start-line after seeing how safe and long it was. After some
