A WIN OVER TRADITIONAL RIVAL BALMY BEACH TOPS ALL....
Peter Bennett
After a hot summer on the greens, Lawn Bowlers wrapped up the summer season at the Last Bowl Blast on a sunny day as cold breezes whipped across the green. A beautiful trophy was up for competition and after two games Peter Bennett and his rink of Bruce Becker-Lead and Renate Hamburgh- Vice , prevailed. Thanks to George and Donna Meadows for the celebratory drinks and nibbles.
Apart from a highly successful Nancy Smith Invitational early in August, won by the Leaside Club, nothing was more rewarding than winning the annual Interclub home-and-home series against the Balmy Beach Club captained by Al Quance. This series has been going on for a long time and been totally dominated by the Beach. As you can see from the photo of the trophy, this is only the second time RCYC has won and Interclub chair Marilyn White has it tightly in her grasp.
Just after Thanksgiving we moved inside for the Short Mat Bowling season featuring Tuesday and Friday afternoon matches. If you think this sport looks like a lot of fun, come and join us.
On the assumption that Members, other than Lawn Bowlers, might read this article, you need to be aware that the Bowling Green is for bowling and not to be used as a site for wedding photos or as a play area for youngsters. The green is a striking feature of the Club and a lot of work is required to keep the surface in competitive shape so its use for other than bowling or other supervised activities is restricted.
