General Manager and Chief Operating Officer neil.rooney@rcyc.ca
Five months have passed since my first day at RCYC and it’s been an exciting journey so far. I’ve had the opportunity to meet many Members but still have many more to meet, so if you’d like to chat over the phone, meet over a coffee or email me, I’d be delighted to connect and listen to your ideas for an improved RCYC Member experience.
We have had many successes over the summer season on the Island but we’ve had challenges too. Challenges in the Food and Beverage department need to be addressed but it wasn’t all bad. Our final event, Last Mast Blast seemed to be a big success based on the wonderful feedback we received. The Sailing department and volunteer Race Committee transition came with some growing pains, as do most big changes at a private club. A lot of volunteers gave a lot their valuable time to make it a huge success and that will be built on for 2020. Other areas will require significant restructure and this will be a focus as we move through October.
2019/20 Fall/Winter Season is well underway and the City Clubhouse is a hive of activity. We have record
registration for our Squash House League, Fitness, Badminton and Aquatic programs are all running well with great participation numbers. We’re reintroducing pickleballthisseason, detailsofwhichareavailableon the website.
The Maiden Movie has been made available to us for showing and we are looking at screening it in the Bistro as follows:
Sunday, November 10th: 2:00pm – 4:00pm (we will open for dinner following)
Monday ,November 18th: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
Depending on popularity we will add more showings as required.
Cherry Street Construction in 2020 will most likely have a negative impact on our access to City Station next year and in 2021. The work has commenced with the clearing of the land between Cherry St. and the Don Roadway. All the roads in the area will be subject to closure at different times for construction to lay water, sewer and other utilities. Both Commissioners St.
and Cherry St. will be closed to through traffic while new bridges are built to cross the new Don River waterway. You should note that the only non-interrupted access to the Cherry St. parking lot in 2020 will be by Leslie St. and Unwin Ave. This route will also be used by construction related trucks and may have delays.
If I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you, I look forward to that. If you would like to meet informally over a coffee or just for a chat, please reach out; 416.934.4401 or Neil.Rooney@RCYC.ca I’m always delighted to hear your thoughts and opinions on how we can improve your experience at the Club.
