RCYC YOUTH KEELBOAT TEAM
Sailing Department
This season’s RCYC Youth Keelboat Team is sure to be an exciting program!
The team will be using Esprit de Corps I, a 40’ One Design returning to race on Lake Ontario. This boat was donated by Atlas Ocean Racing, who are eager to develop a large base of Canadian youth keelboat sailors!
Team Goals:
• Introduce youth dinghy racers to keelboat sailing and racing
• Connect youth sailors with senior Club Members through program mentorship
• Produce lifelong keelboat sailors at the RCYC by offering a new program that keeps sailors engaged in the Club
• Participate in local regattas and long-distance races throughout the season
SAIL THIS SUMMER
Adult Sailing
RCYC Adult Sailing has everything you need to get out on the water! Learn to sail, train to improve, or sail weekly with a racing program.
Don’t own a sailboat? Not a problem – join the Club’s Ideal 18 Fleet for access to boats all season long. Take your friends & family out for a cruise in the harbour or start competing on Thursday nights with the active community of Ideal 18 racers.
Not quite ready to sail on your own? Adult Sailing courses are available for complete novices and continue with programs to train your newfound skills. There’s plenty more sailing to be done. Programs start in May – check out all the details at RCYC.CA/ LearntoSail
Learn to Sail – Train to Improve – Sail/Race at RCYC
• Learn new skills and accomplish goals as part of a large team!
Members of the team will learn different keelboat crew positions, boat maintenance, on-water safety and keelboat racing skills. Sailors will learn the ropes from experienced RCYC Members and high-performance guestcoaches.
Training will begin mid-May and consist of weeknight training sessions on Tuesdays and TGIF racing on Fridays. The first major event on the horizon is the Susan Hood regatta starting June 1st. This is a long-distance race to kick off the season and introduce sailors to overnight racing.
Registration is open online for all youth programs. Full regatta schedule will be launched by May 15th – get ready for some new competition in town!
