THERE WERE TOO MANY – WE HAD TO SEND THEM HOME!

Short mat bowling has become a popular afternoon out. We have a good turnout on Mondays but on several Fridays, we were playing five a side and recently twelve people were on hand because it would be impossible to play six a side so we had to tell two players we couldn’t accommodate them. What does that tell you? Yes, we need an additional mat so that we can run fully competitive matches. You can’t do that with such a large number. Matches are run in a doubles, trebles or fours format, not five or six a side.
Hopefully you had a chance to try SMB at Sailebration and will join us when the next season starts in October. We will be playing Tuesdays and Fridays.
INTERCLUB
The schedule has been finalized and we will be running home and series with Etobicoke LBC, The Cricket Club and Balmy Beach. Each match requires us to field five teams of trebles and the competition is keen-the scores of all matches are totalled and usually only a few points constitute success. Because we can only handle a limited number of interclub events, we broaden the number of clubs invited to the President’s Invitational which runs at the end of July.
COACHING CLINIC
If you have been thinking of taking up lawn bowling, come to our Coaching Clinic which will be held Saturday, May 12th at 10:30 on the Island. The program will cover the tradition, rules and etiquette of the game and an on-green session run by qualified coaches.
THE GREEN
As soon as there is no risk of freezing, work starts on the green. Top dressing, fertilizing and leveling are carried out. The rolling ,watering cutting program is a bit more aggressive this year and we will offer up prayers and burn incense for rain at the right times.
