Cathie Macdonald
BOAT ELECTRONICS SEMINAR, April 3
This final CSS Seminar of 2018 provided an excellent look at what is happening in the boat electronic world. Gordon Crowe (Quadrille) organized this informative fact filled session with Matt Aggus (Ducibella) , Geoff Cornish (Rouleur) and Andrew White (Chesapeake), each describing what they had installed in their boats and why. Discussion focused on the advantages of connectivity, the variety of products and systems available, as well as the skippers preferences given their cruising objectives. See the CSS page of the RCYC website for a detailed report on the session.
CSS SPRING DINNER, May 5
CSS members reunited after the winter to catch up and enjoy a beach theme, with many adorned in colourful beach attire. We also celebrated our 50th Anniversary, with founding member Doug Caldwell recalling the early days and reporting that the founding the CSS was to ensure cruisers had adequate numbers of dock allocations! Mike Newbury was finally presented with his specially made Transoceanic Pennant – now to figure out how to sail with it flying! Don Short and Bob Noble reviewed the summer program of events and cruises. Kids were not forgotten, with special “evening care” arrangements for young kids and teens had their own table. Thanks to Cheryl Walter, Sandra Idenouye and Staff for a memorable evening.
LAKESHORE YACHT CLUB CRUISE, May 26 and 27 Dianne Charlton, Co-Cruise Captains
A perfect weekend, bug infestation aside! The welcome we received from LSYC’s “Cruise Ambassador” and the cooperation we received from all of LSYC’s volunteers/ members was unparalleled. Discussions are already underway for a repeat reciprocal cruise next July. Although worrisome clouds formed to the north as we gathered at 5pm in front of the clubhouse, no rain showers marred a perfect get-together for our

   SAILEBRATION, April 20
Our table, put together by a team of volunteers, highlighted our many activities during the year including the winter seminars and summer cruises and special events throughout. A number of new members joined the CSS including Commodore Chris Mitchele and his family, keen to get cruising on their shared shark Grafitti, a break from racing 8 metres.
