2019 CSS AGM

On Tuesday, October 22nd, CSS Members gathered in Bistro 1852 to review another successful year, despite a late start for cruises, to honour award winners and hear about plans for the 2020 season. CSS Captain John O’Donnell thanked Bob Noble and Cathie Macdonald for their significant contributions in the past years and welcomed new board members Debra Appelton, Sencer Erkaya and Federica Linden. Mike Newbury updated the meeting on harbour rehabilitation projects and how they will affect us. One project is the party boat relocation to the ship channel across from City Station. The program concluded with Ali Bilgen’s slideshow of cruising on the Turkish coast to promote the CSS cruise for September 2020.
& Megan Long and to Jim Wilkens. Other nominees, Sue and Ned Macaulay, for the Oakville cruise, were unable to attend the AGM.
AGAINST ALL ODDS AWARD This award is for a cruising boat that overcame adversity/ significant challenge in order to cruise. The winner was Ferolin. The award was presented to Ron and Federica Linden for high amperage electrical repairs while anchoring in a squall. This was also their first
CSS cruise.
CRUISING INNOVATION AWARD Brian Monrad was presented this award for making Nonsuch 26 Cattitude an electric powered Nonsuch 26 and sailing her from Fifty Point to the Thousand Islands.
AWARD OF MERIT This award is for a CSS Executive Member who made a significant contribution to the success of the CSS year. This year’s winner was Peggy McFarland, who took responsibility for the successful Spring Dinner, Summer BBQ, and the AGM and as well the much appreciated Man Overboard Training in July.

CSS AWARDS – presented by Jon O’Donnell CRUISING SAILORS’ SQUADRON PARTICIPATION FLAG Those participating in at least one cruise last summer collected their flags. Flags for those who missed the AGM will be available at the Spring Dinner. Thanks to Kathrine Moran for looking after the distribution.
CSS PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD
The award, open to all CSS Members, is for the best photo depicting the cruising life taken during a cruising event over the previous season. It is open to all CSS Members. The winner was Umit Terzioglu for her beautiful “Masts at Hamilton”, taken at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club on our first cruise
of the season. The prize is a framed copy of the photo and the Club will frame a copy and display it.
FIRST CRUISE AWARD This award, for a boat’s first cruise, was given for the Lakeshore cruise to Jamie Keating
