Sail Canada Youth Championships
The 2018 Sail Canada Youth Championships
took place from August 24th – 30th RCYC was host to 156 competitors sailing in in in 114 boats from eight provinces across Canada supported by 30 coaches Racing for the five classes was held on two Lake race areas over four days of tricky light wind conditions ending with heavy winds on on the last day Opening Ceremonies and Prize Giving ‘sandwiched’ the event with competitor feedback indicating a
a
a
a
a
wonderful regatta enjoyed by all While the the competition was fantastic the the highlight of the the the weekend was the the the return of YOTS the the the Youth Olympic Training Seminar Eighty-Five of the top youth athletes were invited to participate in in in this two-day clinic that included coaching by Canada’s recent and soon to be Olympic sailors This proved to be very valuable for all involved and contributed greatly to making the event very special Huge thanks thanks gohuge thanks thanks go go to the over 150 volunteers from RCYC and surrounding yacht clubs without whom none of this would have been possible 2018 Tennis Season Closer
On Saturday September 8th the tennis faithful came out for the end of season tennis tournament There was a

chill in the the air but everyone’s spirits were high as the the battle for for the Shimmering Beauty Trophy was up for for grabs In the end George Cohon and Steven Brammer came out victorious and retained the trophy Special thanks to Steven Brammer for organizing the Saturday morning round robin and for everyone who participated this summer It was a

great season!
Moth and WASZP North Americans
Fourteen competitors from across the United States and Canada competed at at RCYC’s first foiling regatta Regatta chair Andy Brazier and RCYC Staff worked hard to keep the the event green and achieved their goal with RCYC winning a

gold rating from the Sailors For The Sea organisation Special thanks to PRO Tom Clark for providing excellent racing 2018 Fleet Championships

win by last year’s World Champions Richard Robarts and team in the Shark The 2018 Champion Champion of Champions was a

close fought series this year with just seconds separating the top five finishers fin in several races The overall championship went to Jason Lemieux and Lauren Laventure on on their International 14 Pandamonium Terry Mclaughlin and and Rod Wilmer on on their J105 Mandate were second followed by Justin Quigg and Steven Hafner on the VX One Walter J105 Canadian Championships
RCYC again played host for this annual three day regatta The Race Committee headed by PRO Mike Milner did a

fantastic job of holding three races in in in Friday’s challenging conditions of big winds and huge waves which were the highlight of the regatta Saturday and Sunday saw very light winds yet the the RC was able to get another two races in in in This regatta offered a
a
a
a
few interesting elements this year: firstly for the second year in a

row Clean Regatta status was achieved by Sailors for the Sea Secondly a
a
a
a

Silent Auction was held during the the event in in support of the the Broad Reach Foundation which introduces kids at at risk to sailing Just over $7 000 dollars was was raised and a

cheque was was presented to Broad Reach during our Awards Ceremony on Sunday Other Sailing Gatherings
On On Friday September 14th the VX One Fleet hosted an Open House Party for anyone interested in in in trying out a
a
a
VX One The event was organized and delivered by the VX Fleet Captains and many boat owners generously made themselves and their boats available to host participants on the water Over 35 guests sailed in beautiful sunny conditions followed by a
BBQ on on on the dinghy dock New interest was sparked: with three new boat orders confirmed RCYC is is organising another group purchase of VX Ones There is room for three more orders in the first container and and if enough demand is realized a
a
a
a
a
