EXPERIMENTAL RIG FOR A NONSUCH 26: 2018 PONDUS TRIALS

In 2017 Jorgen Moller commissioned Durk Steigenga of Performance Sails to craft a gaff sail measuring 35’ on the luff, 15’ on the foot and 7’ at the head. This sail is 5% smaller than the 26’ Nonsuch sail but is close to the centre of effort so more efficient. His interest and advice have been helpful in the project success. Our
target was to be ready for the 2018 Commodore’s Cruise. Fortunately, we had a good variety of winds for the trials ranging from light to 20+ knots.
The unexpected first result was the time to step and un-step the mast was cut by 2/3. This is a wishbone
