DO LAWN BOWLERS HIBERNATE?
Peter Bennett
I don’t think so, and if you ever went by the Sports Hall and peered through the door early on a Tuesday or Friday afternoon you would find two green mats laid out on the courts and eight to twelve folks enjoying short mat bowling. The excitement level is high and in fact your scribe, overcome with a bad game was seen leaving the Clubhouse wearing one bowling shoe and one outdoor shoe.
With two mats, attendance has increased. In late February we had our first interclub match with long time rivals Balmy Beach. While it proved to be a great event, we are hoping that sports groups within the Club will come forward with challenges and Members would randomly come by and join us. By the time you read this edition of Kwasind, we will be coming to the end of our indoor season and headed for “Pat Your Bowls” day early in May on the Island. Missed us on the mainland – come join us on the Island!
Interclub event scheduling is under way and the date has been set for our major OLBA event, the Nancy Smith Trophy Mixed Trebles Tournament on August 10. This is an extremely popular event and will book up early.
We will be at Sailebration, the short mat will be out for you to try your skill and who knows, possibly prizes on the line. See you then.
