Club’s best known racing sailors – where we were, where we are and perhaps a bit of where we’re going.
• Two celebrations of sailing excellence are in the works: a list of World Championship events in which RCYC sailors have excelled and an expansion of the Crown & Beaver’s Olympic Wall.
• The Club website will soon include a revised guide to our model collection (our window on the wider world of yachting history, remember?) which will expand to cover the collection beyond the Model Room.
• The Heritage Task Force will bring a number of conceptual plans to fruition on the Island, with attractions like a display of past Commodores that unites photos and oil portraits, plus better-lit and positioned displays of favourite artefacts.
• Looking a way down the road, we will have HMCS Oriole and the Navy back in June 2020 as the guests of honour for a splendid Heritage Dinner on the Island.
• And not quite so far down the road will be Doors Open on the Island, May 25 and 26, when we invite the city to experience our unique home. Visitors will join us as part of an all-island experience, visiting attractions like the lighthouse, firehouse and selected Wards Island buildings, then proceed via the back gate to a supervised trip around North Island, then in groups, through selected areas of the Clubhouse. Our City tours were a rousing success, dispelling myths, enhancing awareness, goodwill and a number of new Memberships – we expect no less of this event.
Plans evolve, plans change – as Heritage moves forward, we will keep you informed.
