ESSAY
Feedback on academic writing is one of the most fundamental steps for people to
notice their mistakes when writing a text, article. Also, ¨it is the opportunity to see the
positive and negative points they have and thus correct their mistakes so that people can
improve and their writing is clear, concise and at an adequate level¨ (Martínez Rodríguez,
F. 2016, October).
First, in a feedback on academic writing, it will help us see or find the most common
mistakes or problems that people have in their writings. For example, ¨some of the
mistakes can be, writing in a confusing way, not having coherence, not having clear ideas
and mixing them with other ideas, mixing essays between first and third person¨
(Martínez Rodríguez, F. 2016, October). Then, the feedback helps guide and corrects the
errors that are detected so that in this way academic writing can be effectively and quickly
improved.
In addition, the feedback can come in two parts. First, there is the feedback we
receive from other people such as teachers, students, experts, teachers. For example, in a
university the teacher is the one who always gives the feedback, usually "the teacher puts
notes in the work of his students indicating what their mistakes, sometimes gives
comments in class" (Brown, D. 1994) or use tutorials to give their students strategies and
tips to improve their academic writing.
Third, "the following feedback is called self-correction" (Ferris, D. 2002) Self-
correction allows students to put into use everything their teachers have taught them in
terms of good academic writing. This is where students have the privilege of practicing
their knowledge and thus see their mistakes and correct them, this makes them accept
their shortcomings.
In conclusion, feedback is the best way to see our mistakes, we can receive
suggestions to improve our teachers and ourselves so that in the future we can write
correctly and that our ideas are clear, have a good argument and have consistency.
