CHECK ENGINE LAMP To diagnose system problems, start by observing the behav- ior of the check engine lamp. NOTES See Figure 4-3. “Key ON” means that the ignition key is turned to IGNITION and the engine stop switch is set to RUN (although the engine is not running). When the ignition switch is turned ON, the check engine lamp will illuminate for approximately four seconds and If the check engine lamp is not illuminated at key ON or if it fails to turn OFF after the initial four second period, then see 4.5 SPEEDOMETER SELF DIAGNOSTICS.
