Warwick Township wants more direct communication with Waste Management when there are problems at the site.
Pick eld says “there was no breach of reporting” because the company wasn’t required to tell the municipality.
That after the municipality’s Technical Re- view Committee discovered there had been an incident at Twin Creeks on Oct. 14, 2016 but Warwick was never told.
“From the township’s point of view, usually the company is really good about reporting, this one has slipped through the cracks.”

Ministry of the Environment Spokesman Gary Wheeler says land ll staff noticed the liquid in a ditch at the oldest part of the land ll. A contractor removed it, excavated the area and found no additional problems.
The municipality has asked for more direct communication for on site incidents and Pick eld says the operator has “responded positively.”

A nearby sedimentation pond had “elevat- ed levels of boron and unionized ammonia” which is found in land ll leachate.
Waste Management has also agreed to approach the MOE with the township to have a full-time inspector stationed at Twin Creeks as one of the conditions for expand- ing the site.

Wheeler says there was no off site impact.

A year ago, the ministry scaled back inspections to once a month. Pick eld say monthly inspections are “not suf cient for a land ll of this size.”

When there is a re in the former Dawn Township, the Oil Springs Fire Department will come to help.
“We want to work together with our neighbours,” says Williams.
Dawn-Euphemia Fire Chief Dave Williams met with Oil Springs Council and members of the Enniskillen Fire board recently to talk about an automatic aid agreement.
“We’ll start with small building blocks for the future.
Dawn Township was served by Oil Springs until 1993, when the township set up its own department in Rutherford.
“I don’t see a problem with it,” says Oil Springs Mayor Ian Veen.

The two departments have always worked together through a mutual aid agreement for large incidents, but an accident near
the Dawn-Euphemia school in 2016 made Williams consider how to work better with neighbouring communities. At the time, Williams didn’t feel there were enough re ghters available for the daytime call.
Williams says they normally need water at the scene along with help in daytime hours when people are away at work.

The Oil Springs’ department will be called out for all calls in the former Dawn Township and Dawn-Euphemia will receive calls in Oil Springs. Dawn-Euphemia already has mutual aid agreements with three Chatham-Kent Fire departments
for Euphemia; Bothwell, Tupperville and Dresden.
