Lilly getting help from her friends
Heather Wright
The Independent
Lilly Broad is a ball of energy.
She giggles and laughs and does the splits in her Thamesville home.
She smiles widely when she tells you her favourite thing in the world is racing and then will take you to her room to show you pictures of her local favourites from South Buxton Raceway - Tate O’Leary and her cousin, Marshall. And, she’s recently discovered NASCAR - Kyle Busch is her favourite driver, mostly because of the logo on his car; “M&Ms!” squeals the little girl before running off to play a game with Nana.
Lilly is a happy, busy, six-year-old - just like others - except for one thing. This six-year-old is only 34.2 pounds and looks about the size of a three-year-old.
Lilly’s family found out earlier this
year she has a rare birth defect known as Turner’s Syndrome. About one in 2,500 girls world-wide are born without one
of their X chromosomes. The effects are different for each person, but most are less signi cant than others.
Tash Hereygers and Lilly
Mom, Tash Hereygers who is originally from Florence, says Lilly has eye problems, a heart defect and has had problems with dislocated hips. And it is unlikely she will have children of her own in the future. There is also concern that
It’s a lot for the young family to take in, but Hereygers says Lilly is doing well and she has lots of support from her family and Lilly’s dad, Shawn Broad. And soon she’ll be getting help from a friend.
in the future Lilly could develop kidney problems and diabetes.
Hereygers grew up in Florence and worked at 3D’s Restaurant for years. She became friends of John and Joanne Jaques who often came to the restaurant and delivered their asparagus there.
“When we rst got the diagnosis, it was upsetting but we’re trying to look at it positively. She will live a full and happy life.”
The Jaques heard of Lilly’s medical issues and decided to help out. Sunday they’re holding a barbecue from 11 am to 2 pm to raise money to help the family deal with the extra cost of medical expenses.
While Lilly is happy, Hereygers and her daughter spend a lot of time at several different doctors over the course of the year. This week, they’ll have
When the Jaques rst approached her with the idea, Hereygers was “super excited” that her friends wanted to help. “It brought me to tears that someone is thinking of us and wants to help.”
a very important appointment with
an endocrinologist who specializes in hormones. He’ll run tests to determine just how fast or slow Lilly is growing.
If You Go
Hereygers says the appointment will determine if Lilly’s growth hormone therapy will be paid by the province.

Otherwise, the family will have to nd a way to pay for the expensive treatments.
After dodging the rain for the majority of last week, the Alvinston Senior and Junior Aces are both hopeful of getting their Southwest Middlesex Men’s Fastball home openers in this week.
The juniors saw action

on the road, bowing 10-9 to the Astros in Glencoe.
The seniors are scheduled to entertain St. Thomas on Thursday at 8 pm, while the juniors are set to entertain Port Stanley on Sunday at 7 pm.

Here’s How It Works:
Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must ll each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can gure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
